METHODOLOGY & MEASUREMENT in the Behavioral and Social Sciences

The behavioral and social sciences have broad significance and are fundamental to the comprehensive understanding of disease etiology and treatment as well as to the promotion of health and well-being. Behavioral and social factors have a significant impact cross the lifespan on cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and many other diseases and on oral and mental health. The development of innovative methodology and technology in the behavioral and social sciences will allow investigation of the full impact of these factors on health and facilitate the performance of interdisciplinary research at the intersection of the behavioral, social and biomedical sciences.

The Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research has coordinated a number of recent NIH funding initiatives designed to foster methodological development in the behavioral and social sciences:

Roadmap RFA RM 04-013
Supplements for methodological innovations in the behavioral and social sciences

Roadmap RFA RM 04-014
Meetings and networks for methodological development in interdisciplinary research
