NECESSARY TRAVEL INFORMATION

Critical information everyone should know about entering the NIH campus, parking on campus, entering buildings, and using campus transportation is available at: http://www.nih.gov/about/visitorsecurity.htm. Please survey this site for information necessary to access the NIH campus for our event.

When driving to NIH, plan extra time to get through the security checkpoints at the visitor entrances to campus. Be aware that visitor parking lots on the NIH campus can fill up quickly. Hence, the use of public transportation is strongly encouraged. The Washington, DC Metro-Rail system has a station right on the NIH campus, called "Medical Center", which can be accessed by using the Red Line train.

A limited number of sleeping rooms for conference participants has been reserved for the OBSSR 10th Anniversary Celebration at the host hotel, Bethesda Marriott Hotel. The rate is 189 USD per night for single and double occupancy plus tax (12%).

To receive this reduced rate, please call Marriott reservations at 1-800-228-9290 or 301-897-9400, and indicate that you are requesting a room for the OBSSR 10th Anniversary Celebration when making your reservations. Reservations must be made no later than Monday, May 30, 2006, and must be secured with a major credit card. Please be certain that the hotel provides you with a confirmation number for your reservation. After Monday, May 30, 2006, the official room block will be released and the hotel may charge significantly higher rates and may be sold out. When making a reservation, please provide room and bedding preferences. The hotel will assign specific room types on check-in, based on availability. Please be advised that requests are not guaranteed. Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 noon.

Meeting location

The meeting will be held at the Natcher Conference Center (Building 45) on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Participants can get to the Natcher Conference Center by taking the Bethesda Metro Red Line (from the Hyatt Regency Bethesda) to the Medical Center Metro Station (one stop). Exit the Medical Center Metro Station, and the Natcher Conference Center is a short walk across the NIH campus. Please note that the Hyatt Regency Bethesda is the only hotel of the four that is located adjacent to the metro stop. The DoubleTree Hotel is within walking distance of the NIH campus.

Ground Transportation

Using the Metro
The Metro system is clean and reliable. It operates from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, Monday through Thursday; 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Saturday; and 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on Sunday. Each passenger must buy a farecard to travel in the system. Guides for purchasing farecards are posted on the vending machines in each station. Each Metro car features a complete color-coded map. From I-95: Take I-95 South to I-495 (Capital Beltway) West toward Silver Spring. Take Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue/Route 355). Stay to the right when getting off the exit and make two left turns (or do a u-turn) to get onto Route 355 South. Follow Route 355 South for approximately 3 miles. From the North and West
From I-270: Take I-270 South to I-495 (Capital Beltway) East toward Washington, DC. Stay in one of the three left lanes. Follow signs for Route 355 South, a left-lane exit, onto Wisconsin Avenue. From the South

Take I-95 to I-495 West toward Silver Spring/Northern Virginia. Take Exit 33 (Connecticut Avenue) and turn left toward Chevy Chase. At the first light, turn right onto Jones Bridge Road. Follow Jones Bridge Road for approximately 1 mile to Rockville Pike (Route 355) and turn left onto Rockville Pike (which becomes Wisconsin Avenue). Follow Wisconsin Avenue for 1/4 mile. The hotel is on the right (across the street from the Amoco gas station), between Battery Lane and Cordell Avenue.

From Points North and West
