Meeting Location

The meeting will be held in the main auditorium of the Natcher Conference Center (Building 45) on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Participants can get to the Natcher Conference Center by taking the Bethesda Metro Red Line (from the Hyatt Regency Bethesda) to the Medical Center Metro Station (one stop). Exit the Medical Center Metro Station, and the Natcher Conference Center is a short walk across the NIH campus. Please note that the Hyatt Regency Bethesda is the only hotel of the five that is located adjacent to the metro stop. The DoubleTree Hotel is within walking distance of the NIH campus.

Necessary Travel Information

Critical information everyone should know about entering the NIH campus, parking on campus, entering buildings, and using campus transportation is available at: http://www.nih.gov/about/visitorsecurity.htm. Please survey this site for information necessary to access the NIH campus for our event.

When driving to NIH, plan extra time to get through the security checkpoints at the visitor entrances to campus. Be aware that visitor parking lots on the NIH campus can fill up quickly. Hence, the use of public transportation is strongly encouraged. The Washington, DC Metro-Rail system has a station right on the NIH campus, called "Medical Center", which can be accessed by using the Red Line train.

A limited number of sleeping rooms for conference participants has been reserved for the Understanding & Reducing of Disparities in Health Meeting at the host hotel, Doubletree Hotel Bethesda. The rate is 239 USD per night for single and double occupancy plus tax (12%).

To receive this reduced rate, please call Doubletree reservations at 1-800-222-8733 or 301-652-2000, and indicate that you are requesting a room for the Understanding & Reducing Health Disparities Meeting when making your reservations. Reservations must be made no later than September 15, 2006, and must be secured with a major credit card. Please be certain that the hotel provides you with a confirmation number for your reservation. After September 15, 2006, the official room block will be released and the hotel may charge significantly higher rates and may be sold out. When making a reservation, please provide room and bedding preferences. The hotel will assign specific room types on check-in, based on availability. Please be advised that requests are not guaranteed. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 noon.

Ground Transportation


Using the Metro


The Metro system is clean and reliable. It operates from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, Monday through Thursday; 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Saturday; and 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on Sunday. Each passenger must buy a farecard to travel in the system. Guides for purchasing farecards are posted on the vending machines in each station. Each Metro car features a complete color-coded map. Airport Shuttles to Hotels

SuperShuttle offers service to most hotels from Ronald Reagan National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport (25 USD per person and 8 USD for every additional person), and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (29 USD per person and 11 USD for each additional person).
