Dissemination and Implementation

Health scientists have successfully developed and tested a plethora of clinical and community interventions demonstrated to treat and prevent medical and behavioral illnesses. However, as leaders in research and clinical practice have noted, there is still an enormous gap between what we know can maximize the quality of health care and what is currently being delivered in practice and community settings. More present than ever within the research community is the belief that to optimize public health we must not only understand how to create the best interventions, but how to best ensure that they are effectively delivered within clinical and community practice. This is the focus of dissemination and implementation research, and building this knowledge base is imperative to get the best return on decades of investment in biomedical and behavioral research.

Training Announcements

Training Institute for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (TIDIRH) 2017

Applications for TIDIRH 2017 are no longer being accepted.
Mid-August Course Begins
Nov 30 & Dec 1:  In-Person Training, Bethesda, MD

One of the most critical issues impeding improvements in public health today is the enormous gap between what we know can optimize health and health care and what actually gets implemented in everyday practice. The science of dissemination and implementation (D&I) seeks to address this gap by understanding how best to ensure that evidence-based strategies to improve health and prevent disease are effectively delivered in clinical and public health practice.

In 2017, the institute will utilize a combination of a 3-month online course (six webinar sessions with related assignments) between mid-August and mid-November, and a 2-day in-person training to be held November 30 and December 1, 2017, in North Bethesda, MD. Faculty and guest lecturers will consist of leading experts (practitioners and teachers) in theory, implementation, and evaluation approaches to D&I; creating partnerships and multilevel, transdisciplinary research teams; research design, methods, and analyses appropriate for D&I investigations; and conducting research at different and multiple levels of intervention (e.g., clinical, community, policy). The training is open to researchers with interests in studying D&I across health care, public health, and community settings.

Save the Date! 10th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health ǀ December 4-6, 2017

December 4-6, 2017

Marriott Crystal Gateway, Arlington, VA

A decade since its inception, the Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health, co-hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and AcademyHealth, has become the pre-eminent event to bridge the gap between evidence, practice, and policy in health and medicine. This year's theme, A Decade of Progress and the Path Forward, will reflect on the accomplishments of and challenges to the field, and will focus on opportunities ahead.

Call For Abstracts

The call for abstracts for this year's D&I Conference is now open and will close July 25, 2017 at 5:00 PM ET. Abstracts are encouraged for three types of scientific sessions: Individual Oral presentations, Panel presentations, and Poster presentations. A select number of accepted posters may be invited to participate in a poster slam session as well. Priority will be given to abstracts that address the overall conference theme, fit well in one of the conference tracks, and present high-quality data to support abstract conclusions. Authors will be required to select a track for their abstract and must adhere to the format: Background, Methods, Findings, and Implications for D & I Research.

Abstract Tracks
• Behavioral Health
• Big Data and Technology for Dissemination & Implementation Research
• Building the Future of D&I Research
• Clinical Care Settings: Patient-level Interventions
• Clinical Care Settings: System-level Interventions
• Global Dissemination and Implementation
• Health Policy Dissemination and Implementation
• Models, Measures, and Methods
• Prevention and Public Health
• Promoting Health Equity and Eliminating Disparities
