Brief Biography
Cathy Maulsby, Ph.D., joined OBSSR as a social and behavioral scientist administrator in April 2024. In this role, she supports OBSSR’s mission to enhance the impact of health-related behavioral and social sciences research, coordinate and integrate these sciences within the larger NIH research enterprise, and communicate health-related behavioral and social sciences research findings. Dr. Maulsby is a social and behavioral scientist with expertise in evaluating behavioral interventions related to social determinants of health, infectious disease transmission, retention in care, and HIV. Before coming to OBSSR, Dr. Maulsby was a scientific review officer in the Center for Scientific Review, where she ran the Organization and Delivery of Health Services study section. From 2010 to 2020, Cathy was faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Health, Behavior and Society (JHSPH, HBS). Her research aimed to reduce disparities in HIV with a focus on the contribution of social determinants of health. She employed multiple research methods, including case studies, network analyses, trend analyses, cost analyses, and scoping reviews. She also taught research methods for the social and behavioral sciences. Dr. Maulsby earned her Ph.D. in 2010 from JHSPH, HBS; her dissertation focused on undiagnosed HIV infection among gay and bisexual men.
