Overview
The OBSSR and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Adherence Research Network hosted a series of workshops titled “An Action Agenda: Promoting the Science and Practice of Health Behavior Maintenance.” The goal of these workshops was to develop a deeper understanding of health behavior maintenance to better promote and sustain positive health outcomes. These workshops built on previous efforts by the OBSSR and the NIH Health Maintenance Consortium to identify the processes, components, and contextual factors that influence health behavior maintenance.
Workshop 2: Measurement and Monitoring of Behavior Maintenance described the state of the science regarding the criteria and tools used to conceptualize and assess behavior maintenance across different diseases and populations.
In the first half of the workshop, experts defined behavior maintenance through different examples, exploring how changes in behavior patterns are understood and the criteria for determining if someone has achieved or successfully maintained a behavior. These presentations led to on the synergies, potential disconnects, and commonalities across behaviors.
The second half of the workshop highlighted innovative tools and methodologies that have been developed and tested to measure and monitor behavior maintenance in daily life and across different contexts.
